Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship

Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship-2007

Offered by the Commonwealth Secretariat, UK to permanent faculty members working in recognised universities, institutions or colleges including medical institutions for the academic year 2007. Duration of the fellowship is six months. Each fellowship provides approved airfare to the UK and return on expiry of the fellowship, research support grant, personal maintenance allowance, grant towards the expenses of preparing reports and other written work, an initial arrival allowance and grant for expenses for app roved travel,

Requirements: Citizens of India, hold a doctorate degree awarded before October 1, 2002, have at least two years experience as a staff member of the nominating university or similar institution in India. In the field of medicine and dentistry have been appointed to a consultant or equivalent post before October 1, 2002. Available to commence their fellowship in the UK by October 1, 2007.

Commonwealth Split Site Doctoral Scholarship

Offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK, the Commonwealth Split-Site Doctoral Scholarship is available in all disciplines including Medicine and Dentistry for the academic year 2007. Each scholarship provides student concessionary or other approved airfare to the UK Kingdom and return on expiry of the scholarship, approved tuition and examination fees, a personal maintenance allowance etc. Duration of the award is 12 months from October 1,2007. Details of the scholarship are available on UGC website .

Requirements: Citizens of India, hold (by October 1,2007) a first degree or upper second-class honours standard (or above) or a second-class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification.

East-West Center (EWC) Graduate Degree Fellowship Programme

The East-West Center is an education and research organisation established by the US Congress in 1960 to strengthen relations and understanding among the peoples and nations of Asia, the Pacific, and the US. The East-West Center Graduate Degree Fellowship provides substantial funding toward Masters (up to 24-month fellowship) or Doctoral degree (up to 48-month fellowship) for graduate students from Asia, the Pacific, and the US to participate in educational and research pro grams at the East-West Center while pursuing graduate study at the University of Hawaii.There is substantial funding toward education and living expenses, including tuition and fees, graduate residence hall room costs, health insurance, book allowance, and partial living stipend.

Jennings Randolph Programme for International Peace, Awards Senior Fellowships

Jennings Randolph Fellowship Programme for International Peace 2007-2008

The Jennings Randolph Programme for International Peace, Awards Senior Fellowships to enable outstanding scholars, policy makers, journalists, and other professionals from around the world to conduct research at the US Institute of Peace on important issues concerning international conflict and peace. Around 12-15 fellowships are awarded annually. This year the institute is especially interested in topics addressing problems of the Muslim world, post-war reconstruction and reconciliation, and responses to terrorism and political violence. Fellows reside at the institute in Washington DC for a period of up to 10 months to conduct research on their projects, consult with staff and contribute to the ongoing work of the institute. The fellowship award includes a stipend of up to $80,000, travel to Washington for the fellow and dependents, health insurance, an office with computer and voice mail, and a half-time research assistant.

Requirements: The competition is open to citizens of all nations, scholars and practitioners from a variety of professions, including college and university faculty, journalists, diplomats, writers,educators,military officers, international negotiators, NGO professionals and lawyers. Associateship for young scientists

Department of Biotechnology has initiated a programme on specialised training in niche areas of biotechnology, such as (i) medical genetics (ii) stem cell research (iii) nanobiotechnology (iv) transgenic animal models (v) agriculture biotechnology (vi) bioengineering: Tissue engineering, biosensors, biomatenals, medical devices, and implants (vii) seribiotechnology. The duration of the award would be for a period of two months to one year. The associates would be entitled to monthly associateship of US$ 2,400 or its equivalent in the country of study and preparatory allowance of Rs 12,000 (one time grant) as also cost of air passage in economy class by Air India for joining the overseas laboratory and back. Selected candidates may receive salary and continuance of other service benefits by the institutions to which they belong.

Requirements: Young Indian nationals, below 40 years of age as on October 15,2006, with a Ph D/ MD degree in the area related to life sciences/ biotechnology or medicine with an excellent record of research contribution in his/ her field of research. They should hold regular/ permanent positions in government-recognised research and academic institutions/ universities and should be actively engaged in research in the above areas.

Hong Kong Scholarship

Fields of Study: Economics, Electronics.

Eligibility: First class Master’s degree in the subject/related field with continuous 2 years teaching/research/practical experience thereafter.

Academic year Commences from: October.

Addl. Requirements (common): Knowledge of India and of the donor country; 2 years consecutive stay in India after return from abroad for study/ training/specialisation. Candidates already holding Ph.D degree are not eligbie. Candidates qualifying from universities which do not award class/ division, requirements in lieu of First Class is 60% marks. Commission Of The European Communities

Post-Doctoral Fellowships are offered for carrying out research work in laboratories/institutions of the Member states of the European Communities from qualified Indian Scientists residing in India. This is within the framework of cooperation in science and technology between India and the Commission of the European Communities, the Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology (DST) in agreement with the Commission of the European Communities, Directorate General for Science, Research and Development.

Objectives: The objective of this Fellowship Programme is to provide the selected India scientists and technologists with an opportunity to work in frontier areas of science and technology and to familiarise themselves with the latest developments.

Category 1: 20 fellowships each of 12 months duration for young scientists.

The number of the fellowships/duration, however, may be changed at the discretion of Department of Science & Technology/Commission of the European Communities.

Age:
For Category 1
: Scientists should not be more than 35 years of age an October.
For Category II: Scientists should not be more than 50 years of age on October.

Qualifications: For both the categories I and II above, the applicants must possess Ph.D. degree or M.D./M.S. in the concerned subject, along with (i) a good academic record, and (ii) Excellent research record as evinced by publications of research papers in standard scientific journals or patents.

Value of Scholarships: The fellowship amounts for both categories I and II in the various EC countries are as follows:

Subsidy to the host institution: A financial contribution (bench fee) of ECU 10,000/- per annum (or a corresponding pro -rate) is paid by the EC to the host institution.

Insurance: Insurance against the risk of illness and accidents of the fellowship holder (alongwith the spouse and children, if accompanying him/her) shall have to be borne by the concerned fellowship holder either through an Indian General Insurance Company or European Insurance Company.

Accommodation: The cost of accommodation in Europe have to be borne by the fellowship holder who shall make his/her own arrangement for the stay. No additional amount is paid on this account.

InternationalTravel Cost: The international travel cost of the selected candidates from the place of work in India to the final destination in Europe, where the institution of work is located, is borne by the DST, while the cost of the air fare for the return journey is met by the Commission of the European Communities: a fixed amount is added to the last instalment of the fellowship amount drawn by the fellowship holder.

Issue of application forms and guidelines for its submission: The application forms can be obtained from the Section Officer, International Division, Department of Science and Technology, Technology Bhavan, New Mehrauli Road, New Delhi 1100016. The duly filled application form should be forwarded by the candidate through proper channel (Through the head of the institution where the scientist is working or the concerned administrative agency of the institution).

Notification: including format of application form is generally published in the Employment News and some other prominent national dailies.

Notes:

(a) The selection of a candidate is based on his/her scientific merit, the quality of his/her research papers, future potentiality of his/her work, the relevance and importance of the research work proposed to be carried out as the EC Post-Doctoral Fellow,
(b) Candidates are not allowed to stay in Europe beyond the period for which the fellowship has been granted. Preference is given to he candidates who are working in permanent/quasi-permanent position in an institution/laboratory in India
(c) Separate applications are to be submitted of a candidate wishes his application to be considered for different subject areas/topics of research/institutions/or countries.

Fulbright Master’s Fellowships for Leadership Development

The Fulbright Master’s Fellowships for Leadership Development are designed for outstanding Indians to pursue a master’s degree programme at selected United States (US) colleges and universities in the areas of Public Ad ministration. Economics, Communication Studies and Environment. The fellowships, for one to two years, will provide funding towards tuition fees, living and related costs, including professional development in support of the recipient’s graduate study in the US and round trip airfare. Selected scholars are expected to begin their graduate programme in the US during the academic year 2007-2008. The scholars will travel to the US on J-l visas and will be subject to J-visa regulations.

Requirements: In addition to the general prerequisites (given on www.fulbright-india.org/fellow-ships/indians/ prereqgen.htm) the applicant should have completed an equivalent of a US Bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian university with at least 55% marks. Applicants should either possess a four-year bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree, if the bachelor’s degree is of less than four years duration; have at least three years full-time paid or voluntary, professional work experience relevant to their proposed field of study; preferably be in the age group of 25-30 years and demonstrate experience in leadership and community service.

The trustees of the Shri Brihad Bharatiya Samaj are offering the S K Patil Loan Scholarships for the year 2006 for higher studies abroad in Engineering, Technology, Medicine and similar professional courses.

Requirements: First class degree of a recognised Indian university and consistently first class academic record right from the Senior Secondary Certification (SSC) examination. Must have secured admission or should have at least applied for admission in reputed foreign universities for courses commencing from September 2006 but not later than February 2007. The age of a candidate, at the time of applying, should not be above 27 years. Candidates in the final year of the degree courses are eligible if they can produce their final year certificate before end June 2006.

Students who are Indian nationals, completing Standards 10 in the Year 2005, are eligible to apply. Applicants should possess an outstanding academic track record ( at least an average of 85 %) with English as first language in the Standard 10 State / National examninations.

Application are invited on plain paper in the format at Annexure , from Indian Nationals residing in India, for the award of two Scholaships offered by the GOvernment of Slovak Republic . for Master degree level studies in Economy Management & Agriculture.

Qualification : First Class Bachelor Degree with minimum of 60% marks in the relevant subject.

Salient features of the Scholarships are as under:
Scholarship holders will receive during the period of study , a monthly scholarship of 5000 SKK for PG studies.

Eligibility Condition for (B) & (C)

Scholarships, not renewable, are meant for Postgraduates, university Teachers and artists who know Portuguese Language and who wish to undertake research in Portuguese Language and Culture. Only the candidates who have secured admission/acceptance in a Portuguese Institute / University may apply. The applicants should not be more than 45 years of age as on 31.05.2004.
