CAMBRIDEGE NEHRU SCHOLARSHIPS OCTOBER 2005

The Nehru Trust for Cambridge University in collaboration with the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, offer scholarships including Gates Cambridege Scholarships to pursue a course of research leading to the degree of Ph.D at the University of Cambridge

Citizens of India normally under the age of 30 (on 1 October 2005 ) who have first class honours degree or its equivalent are eligible to apply. However, preference may be given to first class Master’s degree or it’s equivalent.

The Scholarships, tenable for up to three years, will cover the University Fee at the home rate, College fees, a maintenance allowance and return airfare.

Preliminary Application Forms can be obtained from the Nehru Trust for Cambridge University, Teen Murti House, New Delhi – 11 by sending a self addressed envelope of 25 X 10 cms duly stamped. Preliminary Application Forms must be returned to the above address No Later Than 21 July 2004

Interview for Scholarships is likely to take place in June 2005

Eligibility Criteria

The scheme is open to

Indian nationals

Students up to the age of 25 years (born on or after 1.10.1980), who have secured at least 60% at Graduate level.

Students with confirmed admission to any full time Post Graduate Degree Course (in any field of education other than fine arts), for a duration upto two years, at any recognized University/Institute of repute either in India or abroad.

Students pursuing higher studies in India, who have obtained admission for the academic year 2005, OR

Students pursuing higher studies in Universities/Institutes abroad for which firm admissions have been obtained for sessions starting between August 2005 and February 2006.

Scholarship will not be given for any Research / PhD work.

Candidates who are receiving part scholarship from any source should indicate the details, as requested in the on-line application form. This will not be a bar for consideration.

Extent of scholarship awarded, i.e., full or part amount, shall be at the sole discretion of Bharat Petroleum.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The application form will be available online www.bharatpetroleum.com in two phases from 1st May-31st May 2005 and 1st September – 30th September 2005.

Phase 1: Students intending to pursue Post graduate studies abroad and who would be leaving the country between July 2005 and October 2005 should apply between 1st May -31st May2005.

Phase 2: Students intending to pursue Post graduate studies abroad, who would be leaving the country between December 2005 and February 2006 AND students pursuing Post graduate studies in India should apply between 1st September – 30th September 2005.

Applications received after the closing dates for both phases ( viz. 31st May 2005 for Phase 1 and 30th September 2005 for Phase 2) will not be entertained.

General Information

1. All applications must be filled and submitted on line. Hard copies of applications sent by post/courier, etc. will be rejected.

2. Please go through the “How to submit your scholarship application?” instructions carefully before attempting to fill in the application online.

3. No photographs, certificates, documents etc, are required to be submitted initially. Those who are called for interview will be asked to produce the same.

4. Short listed candidates will be intimated by BPCL to appear for interview/s before a panel of eminent persons.

5. No queries on applications, which are rejected, will be entertained.

All applicants are required to fill in the on-line application form only once. Multiple applications from the same individual may lead to disqualification.

Please note that all incomplete applications will be automatically disqualified.

Decision of BPCL regarding award of scholarship/s will be final and binding. No further queries in this regard will be entertained. BPCL reserves the right to reject any application at any point of time.

THE AGENCY FOR SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH – SINGAPORE

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (Singapore) launched the A * STAR India Youth Scholarship in 2004. We received overwhelming response, with applications from more than 900 candidates. Our pioneer batch of scholars has since commenced studies and is doing well in Singapore.

We are once again pleased to offer Scholarships this year to outstanding students for studies in Singapore,leading to the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level). Scholars commence studies in top Singapore Schools at Secondary 3 and will sit for the GCE “A” level Examinations (or equivalent) at the end of Pre-University 2.

A dynamic and global city, Singapore offers high education standards and rich opportunities for research and higher learning. More than just excellent grades, we look for individuals who want to make a difference with their zest for Science.

TERM OF ARARD

The Scholarship will provide a maintenance allowance of S$2,200(Secondary) / S$2,400(Pre-University) per annum with hostel accommodation, setting-in allowance, subsidised medical benefits, school and examination fees, return Economy Class air passage at the beginning and end of the Scholarship term.

There is no bond attached to the scholarship. Scholars who have done well can apply for further scholarships to pursue university studies in Singapore or overseas universities.

WHO CAN APPLY

Students who are Indian nationals and completing Standard 8 in the year of application are eligible to apply. Applicants should possess an outstanding academic track record (at least an average of 85%) with English as first language in the Standard 8 examinations.

SELECTION TESTS & INTERVIEWS

Short-listed candidates will be invited to sit for selection tests in September 2005. Candidates will be further shortlisted for an interview in November 2005. Both tests and interviews will be conducted in India.

Students so nominated by their respective institutions will have to present themselves for a Primary Evaluation Programme (PEP) at KG Campus Saravanampatty, Coimbatore. The PEP will comprise

* a written aptitude test
* a psychometric evaluation of the student
* a basic IT skills evaluation
* English Language Skills Testing (written & Spoken) * Rational thinking evaluation

The top 100 qualifying candidates will be invited to participate in a IT Quiz event that will add to their qualifying score for their final scholarship. (The quiz will comprise a written semi-final round and a on stage final round.)

Long term Objectives :

1. Empower the talented and skilled women who ahve studied science, engineering and medicines to contribute effectively in the advancement of science and technology in the country.

2. Develop a pool of women in india ready to undertakes scientific and technical aspects of intellectual property rights.

Short term Objectives:

1. Train talented and skilled women who have studied science,engineering and medicines in patent searches and other aspects of intellectual property rights enabling them to seek specialized employment or be self employed.

2. Develop a core of professionals for preparing repots such as technology scan based on patent information.

3. Develop a pool of resource persons in intellectual property rights for conducting workshops on IPR.

Eligibility :

1. Candidates should be M.Sc.,/Ph.D in physical sciences, chemical sciences, life sciences or B.Tech or B.E./M.Tech or MBBS/MS/MD/MVSc/MPharma with good academic record. candidates with higher qualifications can also apply.

2. Candidates should have a good familiarity with computers in handliing database, surfing the net and information searches.

3. Candidates with research experience,preparing project reports and experience of thesis writing will be prefered.

Age :

Candidates should not be more than 50 year of age and possess good health.

Scholarship:

The Scholarship will be admissible for a period of one year and the amount of Scholarship will be maximum of Rs.10,000 per month for candidates having M.Sc., or B.Tech or MBBS and maximum of Rs.15,000 per month for Ph.D/M.Tech/MPharma/MVSc and M.S./M.D

Placement:

During the period of scholarship candidates may be attached to specialized agencies dealing with intellectual property rights and attomeys firms. Post Scholarship placement is not the responsibility of TIFAC.

Selection Procedure :

Selection will be through a written test and interview. Short listed candidates meeting the eligibility criteria and appearing inn the merit list to be preparred by TIFAC will be called for the written test. A further shortlisiting of the candidates will be done after the written test for the purpose of interview and such seccessful candidates will be informed.

In association with Hitachi Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, THE HINDU invites applications for Scholarship for technical training in JAPAN. The number of Scholarships will be three. The terms and conditions are as follows:

1. Candidates who must be Indian Citizens, schould not have completed 30 years of age on 31.03.2006 and should be in possession of the minimum Degree of B.E., or B.Sc.,(Engg.) or its equivalent from any recognised university. Candidates who have already had practical experience in the branches for which training is proposed to be given, will be given preference. Candidates with at least one year’s professional experience need apply. Those who were interviewed with previous years for the Scholarships need not apply again.

2.The Scholarships are tenable in Japan for principally six months commencing about July 2006. Trainees may have general training in one of the following product fields of Hitachi Ltd., (Hitachi) for Example(1) Information & Telecommunication System (2) Power & Industrial System (3) Digital Media, being subject to the convenience of each of Hitachi’s establishments.

3. Trainees shall be, during their training,under the supervision and direction of Hitachi, which has full discretion on scope,mode,duration and place of establishment of their training.Training will not be available in the R&D activities of Hitachi.They will be subject to the rules and regulations and the discipline of the establishment to which they are posted.

4. Selected trainees will be provided with return Economy Class air passage.Arrangements will also be made for free Boarding and Lodging for trainees in Japan, and to defray all expenses for travelling in Japan which may be considered necessary for their training. In addition, each trainee will be paid a monthly fixed allowance to cover his personal expenses.

5. Parents or guardians of selected candidates shall guarantee their good conduct and shall undertake to pay for their repatriation should their conduct be found unsatisfactory by Hitachi Ltd., or any, public authority in Japan or in case the selected candidates desire to discontinue their studies in Japan for any reason whatsover during the period of their scholarships.

ECC – the Construction Division of engineering and technology major Larsen & Toubro Limited – will sponsor deserving fresh engineering graduates interested in pursuing an M.Tech. in Construction Technology & Management in IIT (Delhi and Madras). The Scholarships signify ECC’s keenness to enhance the interface between educational institutions and industry.

Duration of the course : 24 months.

Date of commencement : July 2005.

Qualifications : First-class graduates with minimum aggregate average of 65% marks in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering who will pass out in 2005 from a recognized Indian University / Institute.

Scholarship : For the 24-months duration of the course, ECC will provide selected candidates a stipend of Rs.6,000/- pm and pay sponsorship and tution fees to IITs.

Absorption : Candidates who successfully complete the course will be considered for absorption in regular employment in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Company. Total emoluments on absorption, at current rates, exceeds Rs.2,50,000/- per annum on cost-to-company basis. The Company offers excellent career growth prospects.

Undertaking : Before joining, candidates selected will be required to execute an undertaking for a value of Rs.3,00,000/- to complete the course, and subsequently, if selected for employment, to serve the Company for a minimum period of 5 years.

The Department of Culture invites applications from Indian Nationals for award of Scholarships TO Young Artistes For The Year 2005-2006

1. Under this Scheme, a total of 400 Scholarships are awarded each year to Young Artistes in Different cultural fields in (i) Indian Classical Music (ii) Indian Classical Dance (iii) Theatre (iv) Visual Arts and (v) Folk, Traditional and Indigenous Arts.

2. The selected awardees will be required to undergo advanced training on a full-time basis for two years under a reputed Guru/Institute within one month of the award of scholarship.

3. As the scholarships are awarded for advanced training, the candidate should have undergone a minimum of 5 years training with their Gurus/Institutes. The Certificates to this effects in Part II of the Performa duly signed by the present Guru/Institute should be submitted alongwith the application.

4. The Scholarship carries a value of Rs.2000/- per month and is tenable for a period of two years which is not extendable. Artistes in the age group of 18-25 (eighteen to twenty five) years as on 01.04.2005 are eligible to apply.

Scheme for award of Scholarship Stipend to the Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe candidates selected for Flying Training upto Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) standard in various Flying Clubs / Schools during the financial year 2005-2004

Applications are invited from eligible candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes under the above scheme so as to reach the Office of the Director General of Civil Aviation ( Training Section), Technical Centre, Opposite Safdarjung Airport , New Delhi by 30.05.2005

Eligibility

1. Minimum Educational Qualifications : 10+2 or equivalent with Mathematics and Physics as subjects

2. Income : Parents’ / Guardians’ income not exceeding Rs.44,500/- per annum for 2004-2005 (attach Certificate of Employer or Competent authority)

3. Age : Between 17 to 20 years as on 01.04.2005

4. Nationality : Indian

5. Training Charges : Flying charges approved by DGCA upto PPL or 60 hrs. whichever is earlier, will be met by the Government

6. Living Expenses : Rs.350/- per month for male candidates and Rs.450/- p.m. for female candidates restricted to a maximum period of 15 months

7. Books : Rs.100/- per annum will be paid for the purchase of books

8. Licence and Medical Examination Fees : Expenditure will be borne by the Govt

9. Travelling Expenses : One single second class train fare at the time of reporting for flying training

10. Number of Scholarships : 40

11. Insurance Premium : Up to the policy value of Rs.10,000/- will be borne by Government during the training period of one year

12. Period of Scholarships :The total period of training will be 24 months ( from the date of joining) or the period actually spent to obtain a Private Pilot’s Licence, whichever is earlier. The continuance of the Scholarship during the period of training will depend upon the satisfactory progress made by the trainees

13. Training Institution :One of the approved Flying Clubs / Institutes to be selected by the Director General of Civil Aviation . A choice may be given by the candidates

14. Agreement : Selected candidates shall have to execute an Indemnity Bond indemnifying the training Institution as well as the Govt.for all possible injuries / accidents / damages for death during the period of training

15. Selection : Initial selection of the candidates will be on the basis of their performance in written test to be conducted at the specified Centres in English,General Knowledge,Maths,Physics & Chemistry
