HOMI BHABHA CENTRE FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION TATA INSTITUTE OF FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH ( A Deemed University) Research Scholarships

HBCSE, a National Centre of TIFR, is looking for committed post-graduates for its PhD programme in Science Education,2006. The Centre is devoted to R & D in science and mathematics education from primary to introductory college level. Its activities are informed by research in cognitive , historical and socio-cultural aspects of science education.

Recent M.Sc.’s ( or those in their fianl year ) in any of the physical / chemical / biological / earth siences or mathematics / statistics / computer science, with a consistently good academic record are eligible to apply. Research scholars are offered a fixed monthly scholarship of Rs.8,000/- ( enhanced to Rs.9500/- after registration for Ph.D ) and an annual contingency grant of Rs.10,000/- in addition to a tution grant of Rs.4000/- per annum, which will cover the university fees of TIFR.

Admissions are for a year, renewable annually for up to 5 years. Accommodation on campus may be provided at nominal cost.

Scheme for award of Scholarship / Stipend to the Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe candidates selected for Flying Training upto Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) standard in various Flying Clubs/ Schools during the financial year 2004-2005

Applications are invited from eligible candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes under the above scheme so as to reach the Office of the Director General of Civil Aviation ( Training Section), Technical Centre, Opposite Safdarjung Airport , New Delhi by 30.05.2004.

Eligibility

1. Minimum Educational Qualifications : 10+2 or equivalent with Mathematics and Physics as subjects.

2. Income : Parents’ / Guardians’ income not exceeding Rs.44,500/- per annum.

3. Age : Between 17 to 20 years as on 01.04.2004.

4. Nationality : Indian.

5. Training Charges : Flying charges approved by DGCA upto PPL or 60 hrs. whichever is earlier, will be met by the Government.

6. Living Expenses : Rs.350/- per month for male candidates and Rs.450/- p.m. for female candidates restricted to a maximum period of 15 months.

7. Books : Rs.100/- per annum will be paid for the purchase of books.

8. Licence and Medical Examination Fees : Expenditure will be borne by the Govt.

9. Travelling Expenses : One single second class train fare at the time of reporting for flying training.

10. Number of Scholarships : 40

11. Insurance Premium : Up to the policy value of Rs.10,000/- will be borne by Government during the training period of one year.

12. Period of Scholarships :The total period of training will be 24 months ( from the date of joining) for the period actually spent to obtain a Private Pilot’s Licence, whichever is earlier. The continuance of the Scholarship during the period of training will depend upon the satisfactory progress made by the trainees.

13. Training Institution :One of the approved Flying Clubs / Institutes to be selected by the Director General of Civil Aviation . A choice may be given by the candidates

14. Agreement : Selected candidates shall have to execute an Indemnity Bond indemnifying the training Institution as well as the Govt.for all possible injuries / accidents / damages for death during the period of training.

15. Selection : Initial selection of the candidates will be on the basis of their performance Knowledge , Maths , Physics & Chemistry.

17. Travelling & Living Expenses for Examination : No travelling or living allowance will be paid for appearing in the written examination. The decision of Director General of Civil Aviation for selection of candidates selected during the initial 10 hours of flying shall be final.

Project Saraswati 2005-06 Graduate/Post Graduate

For the Academic year 2005-06, advertisements carrying detailed information along with the scholarship application form are being released in leading newspapers across India sometime mid 2005. Candidates have to fill all the required details in the application form and provide attested copies of all documents listed. Candidates also need to provide a statement of purpose in English, which should be an essay of not more than 500 words.

Eligibility: Post Graduate

Scholarships are awarded to women only.

For Saraswati Post Graduate, candidates must:

Have secured at-least 60% marks in their 10 th and 12 th examination
Have working knowledge of English language
Scholarships are awarded solely at the discretion of our panel of Judges
Saraswati Post Graduate is for post-graduation education in India

Graduate Scholarships are awarded to women only.

For Saraswati Post Graduate, candidates must:

The Institute invites application from eligible candidates for the award Scholarships for the year 2005-2006.Fellowships – 2 : Professors/Readers/Senior Lecturers from Indian Universities to work in the Institute either for the whole academic year or for specific term as the case may be. Fellowship is for a period of two years at the first instance. Fellowship amount will be equivalent to the salary as he/she was drawing before the award. The Selected Fellows are expected to work in Mysore. The other allowances, would be paid as per existing rules with reference to place of duty i.e.Mysore, If he/she is in the service of Government or of any organization other than a university, his/her status shalll be equated with that of a Lecturer, Reader or Professor under a University and the salary payable to him shall be fixed accordingly for purpose of the fellowship amount. It is equal to the emoluments drawn as salary by the awardees excluding CPF contribution, in their respective departments. The selected Fellow (he/she) will also eligible to contingency grant of Rs.5000.00 only per annum.

Scholarships leading to Ph.D degree : 5

Post-graduate who have cpmpleted their MA in Indian Languages / Linguistics or allied disciplines and are interested in pursuing interdisciplinary research leading to Ph.D Degree at the Institute in Mysore or in any other University. Qualification : First or high second class Masters Degree in Linguistics or allied disciplines.

Tenure of the Scholarship : Maximum period of two years.

Age: Not more than 30 years as on April 30,2004.

Scholarship Amount :Rs.5000.00 p.m. with NET. Rs. 4000.00 p.m without NET.

Contingency Grant : Rs.5000.00 per year.

Note: The short-listed applicants may have to take a test (to be held at CIIL, Mysore) followed by an interview. However, the candidates with NET will be exempted only from the written test, not interview. The original documents/testimonials/certificates will have to be produced at the time of interview.

It may also be noted that the candidates will not be paid TA/DA, etc., by the Institute and they will have to appear for the test.viva-voce at their own cost.The Institue, however, will consider providing hostel accommodation to the outstation candiates atconcessional rate per person per day if a written request is sent to the undersigned in advance.

Scholarships for Students belonging to Scheduled Tribes – 5 :

For pursuing the following courses in Linguistics : M.A. – 3 Rs.600.00 p.m. Contingency grant : Rs.1000.00 for the course.
M.Phil – 1, Rs.1000.00 p.m. Contingency grant Rs.1000.00 for the course.
Ph.D – 1, Rs.1000.00 p.m. Contingency grant Rs.2000.00 for the course ( No written test or interviews are contemplated for these candidates)
