PART A - (5 x 5 = 25 marks)

Answer ALL questions.
All questions carry equal marks.

1. (a) What is pseudo instruction? Give an example.

Or

(b) Mention the name of table and its usage in 2-pass assembler.

2. (a) What is load-and-go assembler?

Or

(b) Write short notes on multipass assembler.

3. (a) What is loading? Discuss the functions of loader.

Or

(b) What is dynamic linking? Discuss the need for dynamic linking.

4. (a) What is meant by macro substitution? Explain with an example.

Or

(b) What is loop optimization? Explain with an example.

5. (a) What is user interface? List down the benefits of user interface.

Or

(b) What is debugging? Discuss various ways of debugging a code.

6. List the functions of 2-pass assembler in each pass and discuss them in detail.

7. What is absolute loadine. Explain design of a absolute loader with an algorithm.

8. List and explain any five addressing modes in detail with an example.

9. Discuss macroprocessor design with an algorithm.

10. What is linkage editor? How is it different from linking loader? Explain.

11. Give the editor structure diagram and explain the functions of each component in detail.

12. Mention various stages of compilation process and explain them in detail.

13. Write short notes on:

(b) Relocation.

1. (a) List the various editing characters used in PICTURE clauses and their usage in COBOL.

Or

(b) Write the DATA DIVISION entries for the record named SALARY-DATA whose description is given below:

Serial No. : 0 - 5 digits
Identification No. : 3 Alphabets 3 Digits
Name: 25 characters
Pay (in Rupees and paise) : Max. Salary Rs. 99,999.
Tax: Max. 50% of salary rounded to rupees
Other deductions: Upto Rs. 9,999.

2. (a) Write the general syntax and use of file commands in COBOL with example.

Or

(b) The balance B in an account with a principal P and simple interest of R after N years is given by B = P (1 +NR/100)

Given P in rupees, write a COBOL program to calculate B, assuming N and R are integers. 3. (a) Compare and contrast RENAME with REDEFINE clause.

Or

(b) Discuss the ADD CORRESPONDING verb with examples.

4. (a) Explain the indexed by clauses in Tables with example.

Or

(b) Write the general syntax and purpose of SEARCH verb in COBOL.

5. (a) What are sequential files? How a sequential file is defined in Environment and Data Division in COBOL.

Or

(b) Write the Environment division statements for indexed files in COBOL.

PART B - (5 x 10 = 50 marks)

Answer any FIVE questions.
All questions carry equal marks.

6. (a) What is a COBOL coding form? What are the various parts and their functions in a coding form?

(b) What are the rules for a valid COBOL dataname?

7. Explain with example the arithmetic verbs in COBOL.

8. Write a COBOL program to read a data file containing the roll number, name, marks of students in six subjects and print the list of students who have passed in all subjects, assuming 45 as the pass mark.

9. (a) Write IF statements to do the following:

(i) Perform PARA-1 if TEST is greater than zero; perform PARA-2 otherwise.

(ii) If TEST-ONE is less than or equal to TEST-TWO, perform PROCEDURE-M; otherwise perform PROCEDURE-K.

(iii) If BANK-BALANCE is positive or zero, continue with program; otherwise perform a procedure named OVERDRAFT. (6)

(b) Discuss the use of CORRESPONDING verb with example. (4)

10. Write a COBOL program for computing the income tax of an employee as per the following rules
Income Tax Rate Upto Rs. 50,000 No Tax
Between Rs. 50,001 to Rs. 1,00,000 10%
Greater than Rs. 1,00,000 20%

11. Explain in detail the use of PERFORM verb for looping in COBOL.

12. Write a COBOL program to prepare the pay slip. The input sequential file contains employee-id, name, hours worked, rate per hour, overtime worked and overtime rate.

13. A company markets four different types of products having 25 salesmen to sell the products. Each record of the input file contains salesman number, product id, total quantity and the total value sold by the salesman. Write a COBOL program to find the total value and total quantity of each product sold. Also find the total quantity of each product sold.
